This is a 1 m combat wing. It is hot wired out of EPS foam (thermocole.. high density).  Dimensions Airfoil is TL56, thickned to 120% It has one 1x5 mm CF strip embedded vertically in the underside to act as a spar.  The two wing halfs are butt joined and the motor mount is also a cross beam joining the two halfs  The elevons are 3 mm balsa covered with monokote The end plates made out of coro , and the flutes are vertically aligned A strong fishing line has been glued along the whole LE to prevent dings ..  The whole aircraft is lightly misted with 3M77 spray and then covered with tape (colored tape).  Servos are mounted on slots on slots cut on the top surface, keeping in mind bind free linkage geometry and as close to the RC as possible.  Electronics (electronics , powertrain, battery choices are greatly governed by what is available with me.. sometimes may not be optimum) Power train - 2206 2400kv Quad motor, 40A ESC,  driving a 5x5 tri blade...

Hot Wire Wing cutting

Hot wire cutting of wing out of EPS, XPS, EPP The details/wisdom of how to cut wing cores out of foam (different variety) is captured below The Bow There are many method of making a bow.. the essential points while making one are 1. Should be easy (light) to use.. the feel of  balance  while holding it will ensure good cuts 2. Should be long enough so it is able to cut the required pieces.. You may require more than one bow for your different needs  3. It is essential that the hot wire is very taunt while cutting... it is good to have some method of  controlling/ tightening the tension applied to the wire. I simply add more twist/turns to the tensioning cord to shorten its length which stretches the lower part of the legs and stretches the cutting wire 4. The cutting wire needs to be hot enough, be thin, and should be able to be stretched taunt .. I use thin ss wire and some times a the thinnest guitar string. 5. Any safe DC/AC power supply @ 30V and 5A should ...

This is a 1 meter pattern aircraft ... not a typical shock flyer. Dimensions (mm) The whole aircraft is made out of EPP The wings was hot wired out of EPP.. RAE100, a medium thickness airfoil was chosen over a thick airfoil to reduce drag. It has two 3X1mm CF strips glued on the top and bottom surface at 35% cord, and one outrigger to the tip TE. The ailerons are 6mm depron. The horizontal and vertical surfaces were 10mm flat plate EPP with the LE rounded. The TE was left as it is to have requisite strength. 3X1mm CF strips are glued along the hinge line for strength The fuselage has a EPP 50mmX40mm central spine which has 3 CF rods (3mm) glued along the length for torsional and longitudinal stiffness. The wing and the horizontal and vertical surface is mated to this central spine. The overall outline of the fuselage is a 10mm EPP which is also glued on the central spine. The battery is pushed in a through slot in the spine (between the CF rods). The slot is cut as forward as pos...
