Xperimentals and Assorted

Image
Some of my xperimental and assorted  builds ... just the highlights 1. Autonomous UAV.. pixhawk FC, scratch-built fuse + easystar wings.. had all flight functionalities incl takeoff and autoland. 2.  Big Stick.. a scratch-built slowstick with ailerons.. amazing flyer .. there is a video of it doing aerobatics in my you tube channel. 3. Combat wing 2 : this had a folded airfoil 4. DLG : The wing had a balsa Leading edge and a foam trailing edge, a boom and pod fuse with string actuated  "pull-pull" controls. 5. Twin Boom star : It had a scratch-built central section mated to easystar wing.. flew very well 6. Formation flying : Amar's modified Blizzard + SkySurfer...  enjoy Ranga's photography ... and the CRASH...  7. X7 Xperimental: it had only one aileron by design , and had a laminar flow airfoil. hotwired eps covered with paper... flew decently.. left turns were slightly uncoordinated....will revisit the lamiar flow airfoil sometime.  8.Twin engine Skysur...

eVTOL - Hummingbird tail sitter

Image
This was built in in 2022. It has symmetrical airfoil. Composite construction foam - fiberglass-CF. Used a balsa CF sandwich for the elevons and it came out really nice 920mm/36 in span ,2 x 2206 2000kv motors, F405 flight controller, 2x 9gm servos, 4S battery. Had to iterate a couple of times and airframes before arriving at a good flying setup. Here is the final video .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVT5TLOxDik

Angor-Rot & Hot-Rod hotliner RC plane

Image
Fast, hotliner design These two are built for speed, and unlike a 3 surface (wing , tailplane and rudder) design, they are wings (delta). The thought was having the max wing area for a given wt and strength and with the least friction/profile drag, and of course ease of construction. (ignoring  difference in Induced drag). Construction is composite, foam, glass fibre, carbon fibre and vacuum bagged,  resulting  in a very strong lightweight structure for its wt. Airfoil is PW 51, with a 1.5 degree washout at the tips. Small wing tips are added to draw out the tip vortex. The LE is reinforced with CF. The wings tips and the centre section of the underbelly has some CF  reinforcements built in. It has 2 layers CF tow of different lengths acting as spar. The paint pattern has been painted directly onto the skin and then vacuum bagged. The control surface hinges are live hinges built into the glass fibre skin. The servos and push-rods are embedded with the wing. All...
