Macarena - combat wing

 This is a 920mm span composite combat wing 




The wings are hotwired out of EPS.. It has a built up a carbon tow top and bottom cap strip acting as the spar. The bottom hinged elevons have a live fiberglass hinge.  There is a LE carbon fiber cap strip and also a thin CF tow strip along the TE to prevent chipping. The whole thing is glassed with 30 gsm fiberglass

.The winglets are fiberglass, carbon fibre & balsa composite

The canopy is taped foam

    Root Cord = 30.5 cm

    Tip Cord = 14.5 cm

    Sweep = 30 degrees

    Span = 92 cm

    CG @10% SM = 15 cm from LE

Electronics

    2307 2550kv motor, 30A esc, 2 x 9gm micro servos, 1500mah 3S bty

Dry weight = 325 gms, AUW = 480 gms




With the CG at 7% , there is about 2mm up elevator required

Excellent flyer... tracks like on rails..snappy in loops and rolls.. and good glide ratio too

DESIGN This design explores the region between a plank and a swept wing flying wing, and to try and get the best of both worlds to whatever extent possible.... The major balancing acts were being efficient across a large speed range, good C l /C d , less twist, and maintaining good flight characteristics.  A slightly different 3D plane designed and made by me. Span is 900mm The wings are low AR and highly tapered. It has a deep fuselage, akin to a pattern flyer. The LE of the ailerons are also tapered. Additional vertical side was added via wingtip plates and a dorsal fin. This gives the ac fantastic tracking an handling. All surfaces are made out of 9mm epp sheets, which were hotwired out of a EPP block.  It has a few CF 3x1 mm strips embedded for strength and stiffness. Additional stiffness is comes from fishing line rigging across the fuselage, wings and tail surfaces. This gives the aircraft very good stiffness without adding weight and is very strong (the fishing line is kevlar).  Electronics : 2212 1400kv motor, 9x5 prop, 30A esc, 4 x 9gm servos. Flies witha 1300/1000mah bty.. AUW 500gms.   A beautiful looking aircraft, which also flies amazingly. Even other flyers vouch that it flies better than many brought out 3D kits. Here is the plan

Angor-Rot & Hot-Rod hotliner RC plane

 Fast, hotliner design These two are built for speed, and unlike a 3 surface (wing , tailplane and rudder) design, they are wings (delta). The thought was having the max wing area for a given wt and strength and with the least friction/profile drag, and of course ease of construction. (ignoring  difference in Induced drag). Construction is composite, foam, glass fibre, carbon fibre and vacuum bagged,  resulting  in a very strong lightweight structure for its wt. Airfoil is PW 51, with a 1.5 degree washout at the tips. Small wing tips are added to draw out the tip vortex. The LE is reinforced with CF. The wings tips and the centre section of the underbelly has some CF  reinforcements built in. It has 2 layers CF tow of different lengths acting as spar. The paint pattern has been painted directly onto the skin and then vacuum bagged.
